Dental Fillings

Our office is pleased to provide a wide range of tooth-colored fillings, inlays, and onlays. You no longer have to look at those old, silver amalgam fillings of the past. You can have a great smile in just one or two easy visits.

Made of composite resin, white fillings are tooth-colored plastic mixtures. They’re filled with different materials, usually including quartz, silica and sometimes, barium for added strength.

White restorations were first introduced back in the 1960s and have slowly become more popular over the last couple of decades.

Thanks to modern science,  the quality has also improved since then and has become one of the most effective ways to fill cavities both for your front and back teeth. These restorations have an exceptionally long life span and can be used in a wide variety of restorations.

Some of the main advantages of white fillings include:

  • The materials bond to your teeth, which helps restore its original strength. Also, unlike mercury fillings, the material won’t expand and contract because of the change in temperatures inside your mouth. All metals expand and contract on hot and cole. This makes them a bit more durable and cheaper because you won’t have to spend much on future restorations.

  • White fillings can also be made to match the shade of other teeth. This helps make them look more natural.

  • Due to the fact that metals tend to transmit temperature changes, white fillings are also less likely to affect your teeth sensitivity to hot and cold.

  • It may be a non-entity, but white fillings do not contain mercury. Although it has been pretty much disproven that mercury in dental fillings causes certain medical problems, not having any mercury can only be a plus.

  • The size of the preparation made for white fillings is usually much smaller.
